- Designing and producing micro-modules that teach about ageing in place, rural sociology, and rural climate resilience.
- Planning and organizing a knowledge transfer exhibition

Description:
We invite applications for the position of full-time Junior Research Assistant for a project funded by the Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Grant (Promoting Innovative Technology in Education).
Project scope:
To develop a gender ‘conscious’ AI-assisted Chatbot for learning social statistics (Part I: elementary level)
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree or above in Sociology, Social Sciences or related fields from a recognized university; (ii) excellent command in written and spoken English and Chinese; (iii) the ability to work independently; (iv) attention to detail, sense of responsibility, high motivation, and an interest in pedagogical research. Those who have good statistical knowledge or/and former experience exploring ways AI can assist higher education learning process will be favorably considered.
Appointee(s) will be responsible for:
- Modifying a focus group guideline and conducting four focus groups to collect data on statistics anxiety and growth mindset of social science students of diverse backgrounds.
- Analyzing the data collected and assisting in drafting a short report on the focus groups findings.
- Coordinating the production of one micro module and training manual (for teachers) about growth mindset and statistics anxiety. Supervising student helpers who are tasked with the production process.
- Assisting in the creation of new resources for teaching elementary social statistics, for example, designing mini-tasks and respective guidelines for use in class activities and for interactive learning with Generative AI.
- Assisting the PI and CI in coordinating with CUHK KEEP to develop a new Chatbot web application for teaching and learning social statistics. Including but not limited to generating the training materials for developing the new Chatbot web application.
- Assisting the testing of the new Chatbot web application in a statistics course. Designing a survey to evaluate the effectiveness of the new Chatbot web application by collecting students’ feedback.
- Supporting project administration, such as assisting in the drafting of the progress report and final report, and drafting conference/exhibition papers.
- Performing other related tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator and Co-supervisor.
Appointment will be made on contract basis for seven months commencing August 2024.

Project scope:
To develop pre-service course training materials for students to understand aging in place in a rural community in Hong Kong
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree or above in Sociology, Social Sciences or related fields from a recognized university; (ii) excellent command in written and spoken English and Cantonese; (iii) the ability to work independently; (iv) attention to detail, responsibility, high motivation, and an interest in sociological study of aging. Those who have former experience assisting in the development of teaching and learning materials or/and working for a social science research project will be favorably considered.
Appointee(s) will be responsible for:
- Supervising and coordinating the development of five life story videos and four micro modules for teaching concepts related to the sociology of aging.
- Developing a survey questionnaire for measuring the impact of project engagement on the attitudes and values of student helpers.
- Developing a focus group guideline and conducting a focus group to collect reflections from student helpers.
- Assisting in a range of social impact initiatives, such as organizing a community sharing session and collaborating with non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
- Developing a survey questionnaire to examine the impact of two service-learning field trips on student participants and evaluating the effectiveness of the micro modules.
- Supporting project administration, such as assisting in the drafting of the progress report and final report, and drafting conference/exhibition papers.
Appointment will be made on contract basis for eight months commencing August 2024.
